The Hunger Games

Hello, I know I have not posted in a very long time and I am really sorry. But, I just finished reading the Hunger Games Trilogy. It is probably my favorite series yet. Well, I decided to do the Hunger Games today, and Catching Fire and Mockingjay later in the week. This amazing book is written by Suzanne Collins. It is about a girl named Katniss Everdeen. This is set in the far future in a place called Panem ( instead of North America). There are 12 districts ( area's of land ) and a capitol. Katniss lives in the district 12, which is the poorest district with her mother and sister, Prim ( her dad was killed in a mine accident ). She learned how to hunt with a bow and arrow at a young age and now goes out to hunt everyday with her best friend and hunting partner, Gale Hawthorne, whose dad also died in the accident. Every year, there is a reaping where they choose a male and a female tribute from a rolling ball for the Hunger Games. The games were created 74 years ago ( in the book ) and are where 2 tributes from each district come and fight for there life. Prim is originally chosen for the female tribute, but Katniss volunteers. Peeta Mellark is chosen for the male tribute. Well, that day there are put on a train with Effie Trinket, there escort for the games and Haymitch Abernathy, the winner of the games 24 years ago who is drunk most of the time. During the interview before the games, Peeta tells the the citizens of Panem about his lifelong crush on Katniss on T.V. During the games, Katniss makes friends with a girl named Rue, who is from district 11. Katniss is sneaking up on the tribute from district 2, when she overhears him saying that he cut Peeta's leg open. Katniss does not have time to think about it because she hears Rue screaming for her. Katniss finds her tangled up in a rope with an arrow  in her stomach. Katniss knows that Rue will not live, so she sings to her while she is dying. A few hours later, The announcer, Claudius Temple tells the tributes that if the two tibutes left in the end are from the same district, they both win. Katniss now knows that she has to find Peeta to keep him alive. She has been looking for a while when she hears him right under her. She can't find him until she realizes that he has camouflaged himself to match the ground. She gets him out and finds the cut on his leg is almost infected. She nurses him back to health and they discover there are only 6 tributes left. Cato and Clove from district 2, Thresh from district 11, and a girl they call Foxface from district 5. Clove dies the next day. Katniss and Peeta decide to go hunting in the woods. Peeta finds some berries and is about to eat them when Katniss tells him not to because they are poisonous. Foxface finds the berries and eats them but, she dies from them. Thresh dies about a day later and that leaves only Katniss, Peeta, and Cato. Cato slowly dies from mutts and Katniss and Peeta are crowned victors. They go home and are moved to the Victor's Village, where only three houses are used. They are treated with much respect and they never go hungry again. I love this book and really want to see the movie. I hope you like it! -Mira

The Cave, the Cabin, and the Tattoo Man

Okay, I am SO SO sorry I have not posted in a LONG time.I have just been so busy. I am going to start posting twice a week.

Now, A couple weeks ago, My reading class finished reading The Cave, the  Cabin, and the Tattoo Man by Tim Callahan. This is the first book in the Kentucky Summers series I think almost everybody who lives in Kentucky during the Summer or has visited Kentucky during the Summer can relate to this somehow whether it is fishing with your grandpa or helping your grandma in a store. This book is about Timmy, a nine-year-old boy who lives in Ohio, but comes to Kentucky during the Summer to see his grandparents. While Timmy is there, Mrs. Robbins, an old lady who lives on a hill, is murdered with a pan. Timmy is the one who finds her dead body inside her house. Timmy has one prime suspect: The Tattoo Man. This book is full of suspense and is a great class read. But the awesome thing is this is based on the author's personal expierence! Some of this actually happened, but he added a lot. This is an amazing book and one of my favorite all-time books!!!!!

I hope you love this book like I do!

Bridge to Terabithia

Okay, I am so sorrry that I have not posted in a LONG time. But I read a very special book a few weeks ago. The book was not special, but the reason I read it was. Last week, My school competed in the wonderful Governer's Cup.

Unfortunately, Jennie Rogers did not do well, but we had a great time. You can click Here to see the final scores  (In testing, this only shows scores from kids on Toliver's team because they are the only team that has posted anything about it, scroll down when you get to that page for final results). Anyways, I took the Language Arts test. I was required to read Bridge to Terabithia. This is a confession: I did not like, but I won't tell you why. This book is by Katherine Patterson.

This book is about Jess, a fifth grader who wants to be the fastest runner in his grade. But then Leslie came along. She was a new girl who had an odd backstory. Leslie was the one who won ALL the races. Jess and Leslie become awesome friends. They create a land together called Terabithia where they are the queen and king. They also have a dog who's name is Prince Terrian. They have so much fun together. But one day when Jess was gone with a teacher, something tragic happens to Leslie. Jess has to go to Terabithia by himself now.
I think you should read this book. It changed my life. I give it  .
